Why Local Talk Radio Makes Sense

You may scoff at the idea, but you really should think about getting your company on local talk radio. I know, I know, but hear me out. Talk radio isn’t just for your Uncle Bob who nods along while he whittles on the front porch. These programs have a lot of listeners and can cover a wide variety of topics.

Thus, there’s a lot of promotion to be done with local talk radio shows. And while many radio stations are switching to a syndicated format, featuring talking heads like Rush and Boortz, many are still holding up the traditional local format. Task one is obviously to find out which stations in area still keep it local.

What Good Can It Do?

Professionals from the ages of 35-60 will listen to various radio programs throughout the day. This includes talk radio, especially on commutes. This means in the morning and afternoons you could be very busy if you play your cards right.

Also, some local talk shows air midday to catch the lunch crowd. Some places of business even have it playing while their employees work. If you’re out there on the phone or doing an in-person interview, then you suddenly have a very large audience for your product!

Multiple Markets

On top of your own local radio stations, try the surrounding areas. This is especially true if you live in a larger city. Many of the suburbs and towns outside the perimeter of your city will have their own radio stations with their own markets.

Don’t think just because they are smaller markets they aren’t viable, either. Often these smaller towns can inspire real loyalty to your product and your company, especially if what you’re selling pertains directly to them.

Trust

Another factor in why local radio works so well for marketing is the trust factor. Listeners of local talk radio have a lot of faith in their favorite talking heads. So if they go on about how great your company is, they will believe them! This can translate into a lot of dollars in your pocket when they are in the market for your product or service.
