A Public Relations Profile: Kelly Larabee
In my career as a journalist, I’ve dealt with hundreds, possibly thousands, of people who work in the public relations industry in one capacity or another. Unfortunately, not many of those public relations professionals stick out in my mind. When Blogs Attack, Can Public Relations Survive?
Every time I want to dismiss or ignore the impact of blogs on the public relations industry, I’m reminded of their power. A recent example occurred as I was talking to the head of investor relations for a Fortune 500 company. “My biggest problem right now is dealing with these [expletive] bloggers,” the IR chief said. “The amount of false information and mindless bashing masquerading as commentary is dizzying.” (Read more…)

Crisis Management Can Help Avoid Public Relations Nightmares
When the phone rang at midnight, I knew something was wrong. The caller was a spokesperson for a large, public technology company based in Silicon Valley: “We’re filing for bankruptcy in the morning. I wanted to let you know. We’re announcing it at 7:00 AM EST. Get the word out.” I quickly wrote up a story for my web site and tipped off Reuters and the Associated Press that the announcement was coming. By the time the company announced its bankruptcy, the news was already on the wire, and something bigger was going down in the sector. A public relations nightmare had been averted, but how?
