Being usable (your content has clear, extractable facts)
Being cited (your page becomes a source link inside the answer)
Being trusted (your brand is described accurately and consistently)
Being recommended (your product/service gets surfaced as an option)
That’s a different kind of SEO.
It’s less “sprinkle keywords” and more “make your information easy to verify.”
If you’ve ever tried to pull a clean quote from a messy press release, you already get it. The machines feel the same way.
A lot of people dismiss press releases as “old-school.” Then they watch an AI engine summarize their company… using some random directory listing from 2017.
Press releases still matter because they often contain the most concentrated version of your truth:

The system searches or retrieves relevant pages
It summarizes what it finds
It cites sources (often, but not always)
It presents the answer as a narrative, not a list

Your headline and subheadline should be true, specific, and easy to restate.
Bad: “Revolutionary Platform Disrupts the Industry”
Better: “Acme Launches Inventory App That Predicts Stockouts for Shopify Stores”
AI engines don’t “feel” your adjectives. They extract your nouns and verbs.
Within the first 10–15 lines, include:
– Company name (exact legal + brand form if relevant)
– What’s being announced
– Who it’s for
– Where it’s available
– When it’s available
– A single-sentence “why it matters”
– The primary URL (not five competing links)
Think: “If someone only read the first 150 words, would they get it?”
I’m not saying “sound robotic.”
I’m saying: make it reference-friendly.
A good pattern:
– Sentence 1: announcement
– Sentence 2: what it does / what changed
– Sentence 3: who it helps + outcome
– Sentence 4: availability + URL
Then you can add color. But earn clarity first.
AI systems get confused when you call the same thing three names:

Pick one canonical name and stick to it.

– Company

A usable quote does one of these:

Best practice:

Referral traffic from AI tools (watch analytics referrers; some show up clearly, some don’t)
Brand + product mentions in AI answers (manual checks, light tooling, periodic spot tests)
Citations/links to your newsroom page (search for your release title and URL variants)
Pickups that add original context (not just reposts)
Search Console impressions for “problem-aware” queries (the “why/what/how” questions)
And yes, you can still care about Google.
But you’re now watching for “inclusion” as much as “position.”
A small SaaS company launches “InvoiceGuard,” a tool that spots duplicate invoices.
Version A of the release says:
“We’re thrilled to announce a revolutionary solution that transforms the accounts payable experience.”
Version B says:

When an AI engine gets a question like “How do I prevent duplicate invoices?” which release becomes a useful source?
Not the one that’s thrilled.
The one that’s clear.
Before you publish, scan your release and confirm:
Headline states a specific, repeatable claim
First paragraph includes who/what/when/where/why + one URL
Product/company names are consistent across the page
Quote explains context or differentiation
“How it works” bullets are included
4–6 FAQs are included
Newsroom version is indexable and stable
Links go to proof pages (pricing, docs, demo, case study)
Boilerplate is clean and matches your site wording
Do that, and you’re no longer writing releases for “Google only.”
You’re writing releases that answer engines can actually use.
The companies winning in AI search aren’t necessarily the loudest.
They’re the easiest to understand.
Press releases—done right—are still one of the cleanest ways to publish “official truth” on the open web.
So the goal isn’t to game the system.
