SafeinHome's marketing director Denise Yarmlak will be a featured guest on The Dave Congalton Show, Hometown Radio, on KVEC 920 AM today, Wednesday, April 30 at 3:00 pm. Yarmlak will talk about the state of the aging population, aging in place technology and the company's new aging-in-place system. The SLO Chamber of Commerce will also host a ribbon cutting today at 12:30 pm.

Visiting Angels, a Central Coast senior home care agency with offices in San Luis Obispo and Valencia, CA, has adopted SafeinHome to complement its services for aging clients.

"What impresses me the most about SafeinHome is that we both have the same goal to keep seniors at home for as long as they want," said Geneva Knoles, Visiting Angels director. "Unlike personal emergency response systems where the senior has to push a button to get help, SafeinHome doesn't require the senior to do anything. It's a passive system, and an aging parent is comforted knowing family members are checking in regularly."

Aging in SLO County

San Luis Obispo County's senior population is growing faster than the majority of CA counties. According to the California Department of Aging, SLO County, residents age 60 and over are increasing more than 100 percent and residents 85 and older are growing by more than 200 percent. As life spans and assisted living costs steadily rise, SafeinHome offers adult children a simple, affordable solution to help them care for their elderly parents.

SafeinHome packages a mobile application with wireless in-home sensors placed unobtrusively throughout the senior's home. These sensors track the senior's motion and activity, and securely transmit this information directly to the caregiver's smartphone or tablet. The complete system monitors motion, doors, keys, stove and room temperature, pillbox usage, and more.

"Families worry about mom remembering to take her medication," added Knoles. "There are complex systems out there that automatically dispense pills but they are expensive and don't always work properly. SafeinHome has sensors right on the pill box and family members are notified when their parent makes contact with the medication."

The SafeinHome system also features custom alerts that notify users of any out-of-the-ordinary behavior. For example, if a parent has slept later than usual or there is no motion during daytime hours when the senior is at home caregivers receive an alert so they can check in to make sure everything is alright. They can also check to see if the senior is regularly visiting the kitchen which is an indication of eating. Seniors do not need to wear a device, press a button, or make a phone call — an important feature for individuals who are reluctant to bother others with their needs.

SafeinHome is the only product in the aging in place market that doesn't require the senior to do anything to transmit a signal to the adult child to let them know about their parent's well being. For more information call (855) is Mom OK (855-476-6665) or visit www.safeinhome.com.
