His Passion for Food and Italy Unraveled in New Book of Short Stories

BANGOR, Pa., Nov. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Deeply inspired by his grandmother, author Joseph DeFranco's love for food and country is engraved within him ever since.  Now he shares this passion to all with the release of his book, Growing up in the Butcher Shop.

The author has always enjoyed telling stories to friends and reading articles about Italy, food magazines, and cookbooks, along with being surrounded by his grandparents, who have left the greatest impression on him. All of these things have inspired him to write these stories.

Penning down these vignettes is his way of keeping the old customs alive, hoping that the younger generation will have an idea as to the way of life back then, when he was growing up in the sixties – in a butcher shop. Also, for the older generation to reminisce and remember when Roseto was Roseto; not as it is today.

This book can be purchased at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com.

About the Author
Born on July 29, 1956, on the Sunday of The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, he was christened the name Joseph Carmen DeFranco, which is the reason his middle name is Carmen. His father, Martin, is the son of Philip & Teodora (Del Grosso) DeFranco. His mother, Rosario, was born in Roseto Valforte, Italy. She is the daughter of Giuseppe & Clementina (De Avella) D'Avanzo.  He grew up in a Butcher Shop. The front of the house was the store and they lived in the back; so he has always been involved with food.  He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School and graduated from Pius X High School in Roseto. He attended East Stroudsburg University for a period of time and decided it wasn't for him. He chose to work in various blouse mills in the community. By 1989, he was influenced by his Grandmother Teodorato to own and operate a catering business and has been doing this ever since.  Now, he operates his catering business with his wife Joelene.
