New York City Mass Tort and Personal Injury Litigation Law Firm Weitz & Luxenberg Commemorates Veterans Day

Arthur Luxenberg, founder of Weitz & Luxenberg, honors nation's former servicemen for national holiday

NEW YORK, Nov. 11, 2011 — Weitz & Luxenberg P.C., the largest mass tort and personal injury litigation law firm in New York, today announced it will continue providing legal services and personal support to veterans, members of the armed forces and others in the military community.

Among the first to advocate for the interests of victims of asbestos cancers, Weitz & Luxenberg was founded in 1986 by Perry Weitz and Arthur Luxenberg. One of its early major accomplishments was a court victory for veterans who were injured by asbestos while serving at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a tactical outpost in the Second World War that mass-produced navy vessels essential to Allied victory in the European and Pacific theaters.

Reflecting on the firm's history, Arthur Luxenberg recalled that landmark case. "The Brooklyn Navy Yard verdict was historic – our clients won over $100 million – and helped turn the tide of asbestos litigation in favor of mesothelioma victims. From that time forward, it was easier for our veterans to be compensated.

"The case serves even today as a message of hope to veterans who were exposed to asbestos and now are paying a belated price for it," Luxenberg said.

"Weitz & Luxenberg represents thousands of people who served our country in every branch of the military, and as their attorneys we want every one of them to feel that they are in good hands," said Luxenberg.

"Just winning your mesothelioma case is a big part of what we do, but our firm wants to make a point of expressing our gratitude to our nation's veterans, and to let them know that we are fully committed not only to outstanding legal representation, but to understanding all our veterans' needs and experiences."

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada.
