With New York "Ripe" for Apple Picking, Company Fights for More Laws Protecting Smartphone Owners
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — With an epidemic of iPhone thefts, known as "Apple picking," sweeping the country, particularly in New York, owning a smartphone has never been more dangerous. Today, at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Yellow Jacket, LLC (www.yellowjacketcase.com), creators of the world's first stun gun smartphone case, announced the launch of a Change.org petition urging New York lawmakers to reclassify stun guns in their state as personal protection devices.
The NYPD recently made public that there were 16,000 Apple-picking thefts in 2012, equating to 14 percent of the total crime in the city. In addition, 45 percent of all 2013 robberies in the city involved cell phones, with more than half involving iPhones. By making stun guns legal in the state of New York, smartphone users can gain a sense of security while having access to a safe and effective means of protection.

Stun guns offer two layers of protection; it is a close proximity device that uses high-voltage electricity to stop an attacker by momentarily disabling the muscle control, while the electrical crackling can deter an attack before it happens.
