Workshop Helps Advisors Ensure Clients’ True Legacies Endure

CINCINNATI, May 13, 2009 — Barbara A. Culver, co-creator of the Purposeful Planning(TM) System, announced their new Master’s Level Intensive 4-day workshop to provide concepts, skills and techniques to help advisors better serve high net worth clients and their families. Program dates are July 9-12, 2009 at The Westin in Westminster, CO, and tuition is just $1200.

The faculty includes Barbara Culver, CFP(R), CLU, ChFC, AEP; John A. Warnick, Esq.; Courtney Pullen, MA, LPC; and Terry Hunt, EdD. All have extensive experience working with affluent families as well as with the advisors who consult with this market.

“Statistics show that financial legacies are lost more often than not when wealth is passed on from generation to generation,” said Culver. “Advisors who serve this population – be they financial advisors, estate attorneys, philanthropic professionals or psychologists – have a duty to see that their clients’ families do not suffer this fate. We developed the Purposeful Planning System to provide the training and support they need to take their skills to a whole new level.”

PROGRAM

Day 1, taught by Pullen, focuses on increasing attendees’ effectiveness in the client discovery process. This session will help advisors address their own personal issues around money and eliminate any barriers they may have in working with affluent clients.

Hunt leads Day 2, helping advisors better understand the issues facing their clients and how these issues impact intergenerational family dynamics. Hunt focuses on how to lead families from a top-down power structure to a more inclusive model, resulting in the cooperation necessary to make constructive decisions about the family legacy.

On Day 3, Warnick focuses on “purposeful trusts,” avoiding the entitlements and dependency often created by traditional trusts. Warnick explains the importance of bringing the grantor’s vision into the trust document and helping the grantee develop the resilience and self-awareness necessary to step successfully into the future.

Culver will lead Day 4, helping advisors develop critical presentation skills, to better connect with individuals and audiences and land key messages every time.

Through interactive dialogue, skills modeling, small group exercises and experiential learning, participants will become better at engaging people physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and intellectually.

Program objectives are for attendees to learn how to:

  • Build intergenerational connections with clients’ families, ensuring their professional relationship endures even after the original client passes on
  • Help families stay connected for a successful transfer of values and financial resources
  • Maintain existing income and create opportunities for expanded relationships and increased revenue
  • Develop a unique professional “brand” and expand one’s business
