Salt Lake City Selected as Host for TEAMS '13
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — SportsTravel magazine announced the winners of the 2012 SportsTravel Awards at the TEAMS '12 Conference & Expo on October 4 in Detroit. TEAMS: Travel, Events And Management in Sports, is the world's largest gathering of event organizers and travel planners from the sports industry.
The dramatic 2011 Major League Baseball World Series, won by the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games over the Texas Rangers, took home the award for Sports Event of the Year and Best Professional Sports Event Series. Other winners included Super Bowl XLVI, the BCS Championship Game, the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.

The SportsTravel Awards program bestows honors at the amateur, collegiate and professional levels in three categories each. To be eligible, events had to occur between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012. Criteria for nomination and voting included:
- Superior organization of and attendance at the event
- The event provided a superior experience for competitors and/or spectators
- The event's host city or venue served to enhance the event
