The "Wikipendium of Cooking Knowledge" Uses Hyperlinks to Place Cooking Knowledge at Readers' Fingertips

DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Cooks on any level of experience will come across terms in recipes with which they are unfamiliar or about which they might like to learn more. Cooking Coach Corp. LLC has two quick reference resources to help: a free website, http://www.MyCookingCoach.com, and a 500-page softcover book, My Cooking Coach. The key to accessing this large body of cooking knowledge quickly is a novel Glossary/Index of more than 1,000 terms used in recipes: Foods, Ingredients, Tools and Techniques. More than 5,000 hyperlinks (page numbers in the book) connect users with as many as five elements of information for each term: Definition, Description, Cook's Guide, Cooking Considerations and Master Recipes.

The website bills itself as The Wikipendium of Cooking Knowledge and defines wikipendium as, "A compendium of knowledge on a single subject whose content comes, primarily, from one or more authoritative sources, augmented by suggestions from users." The authoritative source in this case is a revised edition of The Essential Cook, by Charles Delmar, winner of the prestigious Writings award given by the IACP (International Assn. of Culinary Professionals). The website itself was a finalist for a 2013 IACP Digital Media award.

Being a Wikipendium, MyCookingCoach.com invites users to submit suggestions for corrections or new information to its large and growing body of cooking knowledge. Publication of those changes will be subject to approval by users of the website and monitored by its publisher, Charles Delmar. Suggestions that are accepted will be incorporated into the website quarterly, and into the book in future annual editions. "In this way not only will the cooking knowledge be self-correcting and more accurate, it can grow to serve the needs of cooks on all levels, novice to know-it-all," says Delmar.

Probably the most original element of both the website and the book is its unique Master Recipes. (Neither the book or the website has any conventional recipes.) Each Master Recipe provides step-by-step instructions for cooking a basic food by a particular method or technique. How to Fry Poultry, for example, covers six different ways to fry any bird in the poultry family – chickens through wild fowl – all in a single master recipe.

MyCookingCoach.com also provides links to other websites where users can find tested recipes, video cooking lessons and recipe management tools, as well as excerpts from a small sample of the scores of positive reviews received by The Essential Cook. In addition, the Buy the Book page offers the option to download a free sample chapter (Eggs) as well as buy the book.

You can access all of this cooking knowledge free on www.MyCookingCoach.com, or order the book through any retail or online bookseller.
