Wavien, Inc. and Taiwan Color Optics, Inc. Today Announce a Licensing Agreement for LED-Based Miniature GOBO Projector

VALENCIA, Calif., Jan. 6, 2011 — Wavien, Inc. and Taiwan Color Optics, Inc. (TCO) announce a licensing agreement for the LED-based miniature GOBO projector using its proprietary LED Recycling Technology with a 1,000-lumen miniature GOBO projector suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.

Wavien's 1,000-lumen miniature GOBO projector system utilizes a 50 W single white LED from Luminus and standard SLR camera lenses, allowing various focal lengths to be used by simply changing off-the-shelf camera lenses. The system can project GOBO images with diameter up to 30 mm, including standard 35 mm film format, and uses standard camera lenses for ease of changing images' sizes and distances. Also, the use of standard camera lenses lower the cost of the system and capitalizes in the high resolutions of standard lenses, allowing high resolution images to be projected at the target. The low power consumption allows battery operations, which makes applications in hard-to-reach locations possible. "Wavien's LED light recycling technology offers outstanding brightness by recovering high angle light from the LED that is normally wasted with traditional LED coupling systems," stated Dr. Kenneth Li, President and CEO of Wavien, Inc., who is also the inventor of the recycling technology. Dr. Li added: "This unique design enables LED-based products to be able to increase total brightness by over 80%. This performance improvement is provided by adding a reflector with an aperture to the standard LED package. The diameter of the opening, which determines the amount of recycling, can be scaled to meet the user's needs. Together with the capabilities of TCO, we will see GOBO used in more locations than ever," stated Dr. Li.

TCO developed the unique capabilities of making high resolution GOBOs using their special technologies. They combine advanced coating and precision optical systems to manufacture the colored GOBOs. TCO also has the capabilities for high performance projection system design and production. A large image projector designed by TCO had been completed in 2010, with image size and brightness reaching 1,500" and 12,000 lumens, respectively. In 2011, TCO would release a new product using Wavien's Recycling LED Technology, a 1,000-lumen miniature GOBO projection system. "The GOBO projectors could be used for store window projections and subway advertisements, replacing conventional light boxes," stated Mr. YP Chang, TCO general manager.
