FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. and KNOXVILLE, Tenn., April 1, 2009 — Universal Map Group, LLC (”Universal”), an affiliate of the Spartan Organization, Inc. (”Spartan”) and Kappa Media Group, Inc. (”Kappa”), announced today that it has concluded its acquisition of the assets of the business formerly conducted by JSK Map Services (”JSK”), a Knoxville, Tennessee-based publisher of regional and local maps sold throughout the southeastern United States. JSK was owned by the Truan Family through its family partnership.
“JSK is one of the premier regional map publishers in the country and the acquisition of the JSK assets provides Universal with the ability to extend its brand and further enhance its proprietary map coverage,” stated Nicholas Karabots, Chairman of Spartan.
“The Truan family felt it was time to move on, and began looking for a company that would take the JSK product line to the next level,” said Dr. James Truan for the Truan Family Partnership. Dr. Truan noted further that “The Universal line will open up new opportunities for our thousands of customers, and we are excited about the growth this will bring.”
