Now Available and FREE in the iTunes App Store
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Aug. 26, 2009 — Tokiolabs, LLC (http://www.tokiolabs.com) today announced the acquisition and subsequent release of its Sushipedia version 1.2 update, now available for immediate and FREE download on the Apple iTunes App Store. Sushipedia, originally developed by a small Canadian studio, has become part of a series of ongoing acquisitions underway at Tokiolabs in an effort to jumpstart its market position with an array of best-of-breed mobile device lifestyle, educational and gaming products.
First released in January of 2009, Sushipedia has now undergone several notable updates bringing its lifecycle to the current Version 1.2 offering. In short, Sushipedia is a comprehensive and entertaining reference for the Sushi-curious and all things pertaining to Sushi culture. It offers a wealth of valuable data and an in-depth comparison of Japanese and Western Sushi menu offerings, including many of the rarer species of fish seldom available in restaurants. Additionally, Sushipedia provides highly detailed descriptions, tasting notes, fresh seasonal suggestions, historical facts, etiquette, eco-friendly sustainability findings and nutritional data all within a highly appealing, user-friendly experience.
From the start, Sushipedia has received countless kudos from users for its rewarding graphical presentation and overall ease-of-use. Keeping with that standard, Version 1.2 takes its rich experience to the next level as the gallery of photos has been expanded and enhanced with the ability to easily “swipe” through images and “zoom” and “rotate” for greater detail. At the same time, Sushipedia has been reworked from the ground up with an eye to performance, now reduced from its prior bloated 10.5MB+ bundle size by nearly 40% to a much more palatable 7.4MB package.
With Sushipedia the focus on accuracy of its content has become absolutely paramount, drawing a clear distinction between the simple vanity variety of applications and a truly powerful and useful informational resource. Accordingly, the Tokiolabs team has completely rewritten and expanded all of the application’s content to combat a mountain of conflicting and otherwise bad information that circulates on the web on Sushi and Sushi culture.
“It’s amazing just how inaccurate the information surrounding Sushi has gotten out there,” commented Kiomi Takahashi, Resident Japan Expert for Tokiolabs. Ms. Takahashi continues, “To overcome this hurdle, our team went straight to the source in Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market to interview dozens of proprietors who have dedicated their lives to the fishing and Sushi industries. We were simply dumbfounded to find out just how much has been ‘lost in translation’ over the years.”
Between now and the next upcoming major release of Sushipedia 2.0 (which is currently scheduled for sometime in Q3 of this year), the latest Sushipedia Version 1.2 will be offered in the Lifestyle section of the Apple iTunes App Store as a FREE Application.
“Our ultimate goal is to provide our users with the most comprehensive set of features, balanced by a richly designed graphical experience,” explains Tony Novak, President of Tokiolabs. “We believe that by offering Sushipedia at no charge, this will enable the best opportunity to expand the install base and gain the valuable insights that our users and Sushi enthusiasts have to offer.”
