The Largest National Fertility and Adoption Conference Presents The Donor Compensation Controversy Forum with Panelists Dr. Jamie Grifo, Women’s Health Pioneer Barbara Seaman and Bioethicist Josephine Johnston
NEW YORK, April 26, 2007 — The simmering "donor compensation" controversy heated to a rolling boil as the Maryland legislature considers a bill to ban payment to ovum donors (Senate Bill 436 and House Bill 846.) Opponents and supporters of such a ban agree on one thing: passage would have profound implications for infertile women, donors, medical specialists in reproductive medicine and medical research. To unravel the issues at the heart of this emotionally and politically charged debate, The American Fertility Association will host a panel discussion on Sunday, April 29 at 4 pm at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.
The AFA is deeply honored to have as panelists:
— Renowned reproductive endocrinologist and scientific researcher Jamie Grifo, PhD, MD, Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology; Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology, NYU School of Medicine
— Barbara Seaman, trailblazing women’s health advocate, founder of the National Women’s Health Network, prominent author and groundbreaking investigative journalist
— Distinguished bioethicist, Josephine Johnston, Associate for Law and Bioethics Director of Research Operations, The Hastings Center, a leading think tank devoted to emerging questions of healthcare, biomedical technologies and bioethics.
