Camp Pocono Trails, founded and owned by Tony Sparber, features 350 private acres, including an onsite lake, two heated swimming pools, many recreational and arts facilities, and provides the most comprehensive summer weight loss program for pre-teens and teenagers in the country.

Candidates submitted photographs and essays, which were judged on their sincerity, creativity, and overall impression. The winners were chosen based on individual heart-warming stories that illustrated their need for a new image, overall healthier lifestyle, and a fun, memorable summer.

11-year-old Solomon Knudson from Washington, D.C., originally from Ethiopia, was adopted by an American family when he was a one-year-old. He is looking forward to playing capture the flag and paintball as well as swimming around in the lake and the pool.  He says, "I promise to give 100% at camp and to try my absolute best at whatever I do for my health.  I hope one day to help kids, like this camp is going to help me."

14-year-old Tamera Turner from Red Bank, NJ has a passion for acting with dreams of becoming a lawyer. She hopes to participate in the plays and talent shows at the camp. "I was bullied and called names when I was younger.  I want to succeed.  When I do, I will remember the people that had no faith in me.  I will say thank you because it will be those people that don't believe in me that will help me rise up," says Tamera.

"I am thrilled to offer these scholarships to kids in need who really want to get their lives back on track," says Tony Sparber. "Our campers lose an average of 4-5 pounds per week on our program, which is comprised of nutrition, cooking and behavior modification classes and a very active full camp schedule.  We help raise the children's self-esteem and send them home in the best physical and mental shape of their lives, all while having fun at a beautiful summer camp in the Pocono Mountains."

Camp Pocono Trails will give these overweight kids the opportunity to reclaim their lives. Each winner looks forward to gaining the motivation he/she needs to become happier, healthier, and more confident individuals.

The other two winners are:

Carl Weaver, Lancaster, PA: 13-years-old

Lacey Hickey, Roosevelt, NJ: 14-years-old
