TalktoCanada.com Supports International Women's Day

OTTAWA, March 9, 2010 — TalktoCanada.com is proud to announce, in honor of International Women's Day on March 8th, 2010, its charitable monetary donation to the Canadian Women's Foundation.

The Canadian Women's Foundation was selected as this year's "Choice Charity" by TalktoCanada.com due to its continuing support and numerous success stories towards Canadian women, an issue that the company supports not only with charitable support, but also in its day-to-day business practices.

TalktoCanada.com takes pride in having an 80% female workforce at its online English teaching company. These great women also make up half of the management team, thereby encouraging other organizations to increase the amount of females in management by leading by example. In a recent quote from the Harvard Business Review article entitled ‘Women in Management, Delusions of Progress," Nancy M. Carter and Christine Silva said that “Woman represent just 3% of Fortune 500 CEOs and less than 15% of corporate executives at top companies worldwide." With women making up 40 percent of the global workforce, we still have a long way to go until equality between men and women in upper level management jobs takes place. Jillian Zavitz, Programs Manager for TalktoCanada.com shared her opinion: “Obviously, it doesn’t affect us as a company at this point but, as we grow, we will continue to employ amazing women for both teaching and management positions without hesitation."

Marc Anderson, founder and owner of TalktoCanada.com, when asked how he felt about working with an almost all-female staff, answered, "I like it, as they (women) bring another perspective, and other ideas to the table that perhaps we (men) might overlook."

Jillian Zavitz agrees, saying, "women look at things from a different angle — so it is beneficial to have a complete view from all angles rather than just one." She also commented on how in some countries females will ONLY have online English lessons with female teachers due to religious and/or cultural beliefs.

The Canadian Women's Foundation helps build strong women and gives them the support necessary to help them reach their goals. Many Canadian women are faced with hardships each day and the CWF helps change their situation by providing them with the tools necessary to change their lives.

TalktoCanada.com feels lucky to be a part of this initiative as encouraging and helping women achieve their true and full potential is important not only in Canada but worldwide. Zavitz says of this donation, "I really hope this $200 donation will help and encourage Canadian women to both personal and professional success, and in turn, help our society take steps towards empowering women."
