Study Looks at Managing Change, Resistance in Organizations

LOVELAND, Colo., Nov. 30, 2006 — Prosci Research is seeking participants in its newest benchmarking study to learn why some changes are implemented successfully while others fail. The study is designed to uncover best practices for managing the human side of change and to identify the most effective steps leaders can take to improve project performance.

As the worldwide leader in change management research, Prosci has engaged more than 900 companies from 59 countries in its research on change management. Its last major study in 2005 included participants from around the world and a range of industries, including British Airways, Coca-Cola HBC, GlaxoSmithKline, HP, Lucent Technologies, Nextel Communications, Shell Petroleum, the U.S. Air Force and Wachovia Corporation.

The study focuses on revealing lessons learned from participants, including:

-- Greatest overall contributor to project success
-- Biggest obstacle for change initiatives
-- Top reasons for resistance
-- Most important activities and biggest mistakes of senior 
   leaders

The study also includes new research topics:

-- Change saturation - organizations reaching their change 
   capacity
-- Engaging others in the organization in managing change
-- Building change management competencies in an 
   organization
-- Team and financial resources for managing change
-- Evaluating change management effectiveness

"This will be our fifth study and it comes at an exciting
time," said Tim Creasey, Director of Research and
Development for Prosci. "Change management is becoming more
structured as a discipline, and the 2007 effort will collect
data from the people really working to create successful
change. This will be the most comprehensive report to date."

He added that the study will be "an excellent opportunity to
learn from others, and discover what works and what doesn't
when managing change initiatives."

All participants will receive a free copy of the published
research report, expected to be released in the first half
of 2007.

Contributing companies must have a project underway or a
major change initiative that was recently completed.
Individual respondents must be one of the following:

-- Change sponsors or top managers responsible for a change 
   initiative
-- Change management team members or change leaders on the 
   project
-- Project team members or leaders
-- Consultants who supported a major project in the role as 
   advisor or team member

Companies interested in participating will be able to access the site for approximately one month. The survey takes from 45 to 90 minutes to complete.
