As an upgrade to its predecessor product, PerpetualBudget, MyDeptPlan© is field-proven, having been in continuous use for over five years in the Fortune 500 business environment. The term "department resource planning" (DRP) has been coined by SBA to describe products designed for the department manager.

Notable advantages to MyDeptPlan© are its Excel-friendly behavior and integration with enterprise resource planning software (ERP).
