SEO Enhancements Part 4 – Other Enhancements – Anti-spam Email Link – I-Frame – View Counter

How Press Releases Are Search Engine Optimized – Part 4 of 4

The following describes parts of the technical process involved in the SEO modifications we’ve made. If you’d prefer to cut to the chase and look at actual results that our press releases are achieving in the search results, you can take a look right here.

As you look over the individual press release webpage, you’ll see three new features that aren’t SEO enhancements per se, but are improvements that benefit the publisher of the release.

E-Mail Link - SEO Enhanced Press Release

E-Mail Link

Obfuscated Anti-Spam Email Links

The first of these is that any links to email addresses contained in your press release are configured in such a way that they are still clickable mail-to links.

That is, they enable readers of your press release to easily click the link to send an email to you.

However,  these “mailto” links are coded in such a way that they are “obfuscated”, or difficult to read, for the evil little spambots that constantly troll the internet looking for email addresses to spam.

You can see that here – the email address that is shown on the web page, in the image above – looks like the gibberish shown in the source code in the lower image.

The normal practice is to expose the human readable characters of the email address in the source code.

Instead of exposing the address, our system replaces each alphanumeric character in the email address with its hexadecimal html equivalent, making it impossible for most spam harvesters to read.

I-Frame Containing Publisher’s Website

The second non-SEO enhancement to our press releases is the addition of a frame below the press release that contains the press release publisher’s website.

Alhough this frame doesn’t really add anything to the search engine friendliness of this page, it enables any human visitor to the press release to immediately see the publisher’s website.

This visual aid will hopefully provide more information and interest to lead the visitor to click over to the publisher’s actual website.

View Counter

The third non-SEO enhancement is the view counter, which records the number of times anyone visits the press release page.

It’s simply an aid for the publisher to see how much new traffic has visited the press release.

Note that these page views are only for those visiting the press release posted on eReleases. It does not show the page views of the press release on the newswire or dozens of other news sites.
