HOUSTON, Jan. 28, 2008 — While many of today’s seniors are retiring into what they hope will be a more relaxed, enjoyable way of life, they want to stay connected to the "real world." They need to know what’s happening, and have access to trustworthy information and resources. In addition, these adults are looking for all kinds of help – anything from obtaining referrals for home repairs to coordinating personal transportation and even finding healthcare products at a discount. Some, who find themselves being taken advantage of or, worse, victims of elderly abuse, need an advocate.
Providing such services, and so much more, is the Senior Citizens Bureau (SCB) (http://www.seniorcitizensbureau.com). Based in Houston, the SCB is a national non-profit community resource for the elderly, children of the elderly, and other caregivers, advocates and professionals. Currently serving over 400,000 members, the SCB strives to empower seniors with referrals, information and support. These are offered through the SCB’s website, as well as Elder Info Line (1.877.ELDER.55/1.877.353.3755), a 24-hour hotline for SCB members and those with vision limitations.
"With so many current seniors, and considering the staggering number of Baby Boomers heading into advanced age, there’s a real demand for a resource offering good, reliable assistance," says Ken Preston, chairman of the Senior Citizens Bureau. "Through our national hotline, we assist seniors and do our best to guide them to viable solutions. Nowhere else can you find such a depth and diversity of services for seniors."
Of note, SCB and Senior Market Sales, Inc. (a national insurance marketing organization) have recently entered into a new partnership with Aetna Medicare, one of the nation’s largest, oldest and most financially secure insurance companies. Together, they have created "SCB Medicare Solutions" ), a program featuring various Aetna Medicare insurance plans.
"We’re extremely excited and honored to have Aetna Medicare’s sponsorship and support," says Valerie Stephenson, executive director of the Senior Citizens Bureau. "With ‘SCB Medicare Solutions,’ we’ve simplified insurance options for seniors and made the process easy. In this day and age, this is something they truly appreciate and value, so it’s an important service for us to offer."
