The "New School" Online Teen Program

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 7, 2103 /PRNewswire/ — In the web world, social media has become the new sport for the teenage community. Building social relationships online has become more popular than going to the mall or even participating in an after-school activity.  Parents who are looking for an online resource that will bridge the gap between social media and something productive for their teens to enjoy after school have come to the right place! If social networking is what teens are looking forward to doing after school why not introduce them to an online teen after school program!

THE SPILL is an online message board where teens, ages 12-17, can hold conversations by simply setting up an anonymous profile and posting messages (click on "forum" link and register). Each topic pertains to what's important in the life of teenager such as dating/relationships, education, friendships, fashion, gaming, etc. Teens have the opportunity to post a daily journal as well as share their personal success stories. What's unique about this website is each individual can showcase their talents by sending videos, poetry, and personal stories along with a black and white image via email to post on the website homepage. They also have the option of participating in a simple group session where staff will post icebreakers as well answer any questions if needed (administrator has a M.S. Ed in school counseling).  Developing a sense of who you are, as a teenager, can be very awkward at times; Building a structured environment where teens can ask questions, share experiences, interests, and advice, connect with their peers, showcase what they're passionate about,  as well as read articles regarding different topics and issues that relate to the daily struggles of a teenager is a great way for teens to open up about what really matters to them, which gives them the ability to express themselves freely, not to mention build confidence and self-esteem.

It is important to have an outlet for teenagers to figuratively spill their guts. Venting their thoughts, feelings and emotions and discussing their views and opinions to their peers allows them to see that they are not alone. When teens are free to be themselves, they will exude positivity. Once their attitude changes chances are they will become a couple steps closer to accomplishing their personal goals and dreams.
