At this second event in the SABORES culinary series, Chef Torres will be preparing an original summer-themed brunch using select and seasonal Brazilian specialty foods. Sponsored by The Consulate General of Brazil in New York, ABIC Brazilian Coffee Industry Association and BSF – Brazilian Specialty Foods, Inc., the tasting menu will showcase some of the familiar flavors of Brazil as well as ingredients that are new to the U.S. market and have been recognized for their delicious taste and health and fitness properties. It will consist of beloved American brunch foods made from ingredients that are distinctively Brazilian. Tapioca, acai, pao de queijo made from a recent New York Times featured recipe, and Brazilian specialty coffees will be among the products sampled. Targeted toward culinary and food-industry professionals and members of the media, the event will spotlight never-before-seen recipes and cooking techniques by Chef Torres. Guests will also learn about the origins and unique properties of the ingredients featured and how to source them in the U.S.

Chef Torres, whose recipes have been featured in the celebrated The Hot Latin Diet cookbook, is a strong proponent of always using the best and freshest ingredients and promoting flavor in a healthful way. "I like to add flavor to food without adding fat. Chiles, herbs and aromatics are a great way to do that. I am excited about working with Brazilian ingredients for their unique flavor, versatility and gluten-free properties, which also have an added fitness benefit. I'm particularly inspired by yucca-derived products such as tapioca, which can be used in a wide variety of ways, including gluten-free desserts. It's also fun to work with tropical fruits for the beach-vacation vibe that those flavors deliver."

The tasting will take place on Friday, June 28th, 2013 from 3pm – 5pm at The International Culinary Center, 462 Broadway, New York, New York.

Chef Torres and Jeff Santos of Brazilian Specialty Foods will be available for interviews with advance notice.

Limited seats will be made available to members of the press. RSVP below.
