Rethink Autism Becomes the First and Only Autism Curriculum Aligned with the Common Core State Standards

NEW YORK, June 13, 2011 — Rethink Autism, a new force in online education for children on the autism spectrum, has announced that its award-winning curriculum is now aligned with the Common Core State Standards, making it the first and only autism curriculum to meet what is quickly becoming the national standard in education. Developed by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the standards establish clear and consistent goals for learning that will prepare America's children for success in college and work.

"We've been able to seamlessly integrate these standards into our platform, giving educators the ability to search for curriculum content by grade level and see how each of our video lessons helps students work toward these standards," says Jamie Pagliaro, Executive VP for Rethink Autism. "Now, at no extra cost, educators can achieve required academic levels and continually maintain them as students progress from one grade to the next."

Adopted by forty-two states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia, the Common Core State Standards consists of English language arts and mathematics standards for grades K-12 that were developed in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders including content experts, states, teachers, school administrators and parents. As noted by the NGA and CCSSO, high standards that are consistent across states provide teachers, parents, and students with a set of clear expectations that everyone can work together to achieve.

Rethink Autism's platform is based on that same approach, enabling everyone involved in a child's education to work as a team with shared access to training, teaching goals, comprehensive video lessons, lesson plans, and tools to easily plan a full year of schooling. The recipient of multiple education awards, Rethink Autism's curriculum offers over 1,200 video lessons showing parents and educators how to implement research-based teaching strategies based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), the gold standard for autism treatment.
