WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Oct. 31, 2008 — A new, independent report reveals the near uselessness and dangers of using Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRTs), such as gums, patches, inhalents, lozenges and pills. It further documents the universal failures of traditional quit-smoking techniques smokers rely upon to end their addiction to cigarettes. And the report will finally resolve the issue of “why?”
The 15-year-long research study of smokers, those who quit smoking but relapsed later, and those who have stopped smoking longer than 5 years, reveal many interesting and breakthrough results all smokers looking to stop soon should be aware of.
The study, begun in 1993, and later expanded to include Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRTs), with an initial report released in 1999, is completely independent of any tobacco or pharmaceutical company linked with NRTs, and thus is free to report findings that contradict studies produced by those companies.
On the matter of NRTs, the study concludes that their use is fairly beneficial to smokers needing short-term cigarette replacement, like in an airplane, employment or while dining, but have NO IMPACT helping smokers stop, long-term.
In fact, smokers using NRTs as a method to stop smoking are TWICE as likely to relapse back to cigarettes than smokers quitting cold turkey, within 5 years.
The millions spent on NRTs advertisement by the drug companies are geared more toward creating brand loyalty and open-ended usage of their products, AND TO ATTRACT YOUTHFUL NON-SMOKERS INTO NICTINE USAGE AND ADDICTION, than to actually reduce nicotine dependence by smokers, the report contends.
It’s similar to using RED BULL (or other such energy drinks) to stop consuming coffee. Sure, the java junkie may refrain from sipping lattes, but remains addicted to a more potent form of caffeine product.
The report further concludes that all “QUIT” smoking methods, including cold turkey, are equally doomed to fail, long-term, because they are fundamentally regressive and fight normal human behavior. And, their quite limited number of successes are more likely placebo-like or coincidental than actual methodology success.
The root causes to these dramatic failures are very similar to those of the no-carb diets years back: The human mind is very adept and crafty at sabotaging all efforts to deny it what the brain craves and desires.
The study’s most unique aspect is its conclusion: Smokers who have stopped smoking successfully for 5 years or longer did so by completely severing their connection to cigarettes and nicotine — both physically and emotionally — using a positive attitude and proactive techniques that enhanced desire, motivation and determination - by replacing cigarettes with a non-smoker’s lifestyle.
