The Professional Development Center at The University of Texas at Austin Explores New Partnerships in Latin America

Plans include offering professional training courses and programs in Colombia.

AUSTIN, Texas, July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Professional Development Center (UT PDC) at The University of Texas at Austin is committed to developing world class training and education offerings for working professionals in Texas and, now, the world. With recent successes developing sustainable professional development programs in Mexico and Guatemala, UT PDC has set its sights on a more expansive strategy for Latin America. On July 14, UT PDC Director Liliya Spinazzola will travel to Medellin, Colombia, to meet with area universities and businesses in hopes of exploring potential new synergies to help advance the business skills of Colombia's workforce. Spinazzola and members of her staff plan to be in Medellin from July 14 to July 18. UT PDC is a department of the university's Division of Continuing and Innovative Education.

"I'm very excited by the prospect of offering advanced, customized professional development opportunities to the people and industry of Colombia, and I'm especially eager to visit Medellin," states Spinazzola. Medellin was recently named Innovative City of the Year for 2013 by Citi, the Wall Street Journal and the Urban Land Institute. The title was based on Medellin's ability to find new solutions to classic urban problems such as mobility and environmental sustainability. "Medellin has shown the world that it is dedicated to innovation and reinvention," continues Spinazzola. "Medellin's leaders seek out social and professional development to keep their city and their country on the cutting edge of cultural, urban and commercial growth. I look with great anticipation to meeting with thought leaders and professional visionaries in this extraordinary city."

Universities and corporations in Colombia that partner with UT PDC receive a combination of curriculum and instructors, all meeting the high standards of The University of Texas at Austin, on such topics as project management, business communication, leadership and human resources. In addition to meeting with several area universities, such as CES University, Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Universidad EAFIT, UT PDC will meet with a number of corporations in hopes of offering professional development programs designed to improve their organizational efficiencies.
