PriceProtectr.com Announces Launch of New, Free, Money-Saving Website

A Silicon Valley startup that has saved users over a quarter of a million dollars is launching a new website.

NEW YORK, July 20, 2007 — Price Protectr's new website, http://www.PriceProtectr.com, will be ready to save consumers money beginning today, according to inside sources at the Silicon Valley startup.

PriceProtectr.com offers a free service where registered users receive an automated message when the price drops on something they've purchased. For many consumers, that can mean money back.

"The majority of consumers don't even know about price protection policies and the money they can save," said CEO James Wallace, speaking from the New York office. "We cover over 30 national retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Sears, and Staples, more than any other price protection site."

If the price goes down after someone buys an item from one of Price Protectr's 33 retailers, registered users get an e-mail with instructions on how to get some money back from the store. Thousands have used the free service already.

"With the beta website, we've monitored over $4 million in purchases for our users, and saved our members over $250,000. The new site is an exciting development for us, and we can't wait for people to see it. We want everyone to come see the new site, sign up, and start saving," said Price Protectr's President, Tim Tonella, from their California office.

New features at PriceProtectr.com include a "Retailers" page where users can see a complete list of covered stores with links to their price protection policies. Users can also set up accounts and see all the products they have submitted that are still under protection, and the total amount they have saved using Price Protectr. The site also has a blog with helpful hints on how to save money. And then there's the owl.

"We chose the owl because, well, it's a cute mascot! Only problem is, we don't have a name for him yet. Actually, we aren't even sure if it's a he or a she. The owl doesn't talk much – too busy watching prices," said Dave Cohen, CTO of PriceProtectr.com. Cohen revealed that a contest for naming the Price Protectr mascot is planned soon, complete with prizes.

More new developments are on the way.

"We're always adding new retailers, and users can request that we add their favorite store if it has price protection policy," Cohen continued. "We're also in talks with some major partners, but we can't really let the cat out of the bag just yet. We want people to live the motto: Get your money back! And we aim to help them do just that."
