PowerPhone Meets Training Needs of Emergency Dispatchers with Availability of Entire 911 Curriculum as Online Courses

MADISON, Conn., April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — PowerPhone, a leading provider of training services and 911 call handling protocols, today announced the release of their entire continuing education curriculum online. A 2012 survey conducted by the company revealed a growing need for easing and more cost-effective continuing education training for public safety personnel, with 78% of personnel expected to take at least one online course in 2013. With this launch, PowerPhone will provide public safety answering points (PSAPs) with greater options for dispatchers to train when and where they choose.

The movement requiring ongoing education as part of the 911 call taking requirements has become a national initiative. PowerPhone's bold decision to expand the company's entire curriculum to an online environment addresses a pressing need at a time when travel, expense, and overtime costs are under increased scrutiny. PowerPhone released its Just in Time Training in December of 2013 with an overwhelming acceptance and on April 1st, PowerPhone added its Continuing Education courses online so they may be accessed by dispatchers as needed. Instructor-led forums built into each program provide students with easy direct access to subject matter experts.

Dr. Gary Moore, PowerPhone's Director of training, said, "Since its inception, PowerPhone has been ready with timely, responsive solutions to meet market demand. This release of our entire curriculum online is the natural next step toward giving PSAPs efficient options for the continuing education and development of their employees." Over 90 percent of the PowerPhone's survey respondents agreed that a well-designed online course could be just as effective, or more so, than a classroom-based course.

The complete curriculum of online courses can be viewed in the DispatchU Course Catalog at http://www.powerphone.com/dispatchu/. As the teaching arm of PowerPhone, DispatchU offers a wide range of courses on topics directly impacting 911. Says Dr. Moore, "We're excited by this opportunity to help improve the standard of care being provided by 911 centers across the country. Later this year we will be launching a personal development series aimed at career development for dispatchers."
