The 4" hollow water-filled balls shade the water's surface, helping to prevent a sunlight-triggered chemical reaction with the treated water.

LADWP is the one of the first utility company to use plastic shade balls to mitigate a quality problem in drinking water and currently being utilized by LADWP in the Ivanhoe and Silver Lake Reservoirs.

The shade balls act as a floating cover and screen the water's surface, helping to prevent a sunlight-triggered chemical reaction with the treated water, thereby ensuring its safety.  XavierC LLC shade balls are NSF certified safe for use in drinking water

"Using our shade balls, the LADWP will minimize the risk of bromate-forming chemical reactions, safeguard the quality of the potable water that is stored and be in compliance with federal regulations. In addition to preventing UV rays reaching the water, plastic shade balls will also reduce water evaporation by up to 90%," states Sydney D. Chase, President of XavierC LLC.

By their nature, the shade balls re-arrange themselves to fit any size and shape reservoir. As water levels drop the balls again accommodate the situation by stacking on themselves. When water levels increase the balls return to a single layer on the surface.

For Cities, Municipalities and other reservoir operators, shade balls are a cost effective method of creating shade without elaborate construction, parts, labor or maintenance.

"The process must be working efficiently for the LADWP in their water reservoirs; otherwise they wouldn't be purchasing more plastic shade balls from us," concludes Chase.

XavierC LLC is based in Glendora, Ca with an ISO 9000 certified manufacturing facility in Colton, Ca. All company products are NSF certified and safe to be used in drinking water. NSF International is an independent public health and safety organization that tests and certifies products and writes standards for the food, water and consumer goods industries to help protect health and the environment.

XavierC LLC also holds current certifications for Women's Business Enterprise (WBE), Small Business Enterprise (SBE) and Disadvantages Business Enterprise (DBE).

In addition to Cities and Municipalities XavierC LLC supplies plastic shade balls for reservoirs in the mining and petroleum industries.

California's Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Inc recently took delivery of plastic shade balls from XavierC LLC. Mt Baldy is the first ski resort in the world to use shade balls to reduce water evaporation in their reservoir.
