LEWISVILLE, Texas, Sept. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — PetSmart Castle Hill's second annual Pet Adopt-A-Thon will be held on September 13, 14, 15, 2013. Last year, more than 50 dogs were adopted. Lost Paws Rescue of Texas, a local 501(c)3 animal charity, with the help of additional rescue groups, will have more than 100 dogs outside and more than 50 cats inside PetSmart available for adoption this year.

A new twist to the event: Doghouse Derby races on Saturday. Large doghouses on wheels, purchased by local businesses, are raced against other teams. Each doghouse is custom designed by Bud Vore and decorated by local volunteers. The doghouses are raced, two at a time, around a track in the PetSmart parking lot located at the Sam Rayburn Highway (121) & Josey Lane. Each racing doghouse team consists of one person inside – holding a stuffed dog – and four people outside to push the doghouse. Cheer on your favorite team or tune in to 105.3 The Fan, who will be broadcasting live from the races from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Racing team sponsors include PetSmart, Home Depot, Petri H. Coldwell Banker, Pepsico Animal Welfare Society, Banfield Pet Hospital, Club Design Associates, to name a few.
Fundraising games as well as food and beverage vendors will also be available. Pets are welcome as long as they are on a leash. Funds raised from all the activities help pay for the medical and food expenses for Lost Paws' rescue dogs and cats. Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN.org) will also receive a donation. Local residents are encouraged to donate prizes, adopt a pet, and/or buy food and beverages at the event to contribute to funds raised.
