Booming Multi-Billion Dollar Voice Casting Industry Moves from Hollywood Studios to Suburbia with Online Casting Website

NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Making it big in the entertainment industry no longer means moving to Los Angeles, finding an agent and auditioning for casting directors until you land a plum gig. Thousands of voice talent across America are earning a good income, sometimes without changing from their pajamas.

The voice recording services industry is booming. Voice actors are in high demand for animations, television commercials, smartphone applications as well as Internet videos and corporate recordings.

As it is such a niche industry, the pay is good and many choose their own hours with a majority of the work being freelance.

Some of the lucrative paying jobs aren't necessarily going to the big-name Hollywood actors.

Talent Agent Robert James from online casting website The Voice Realm, says even though many of the same actors are hired over and over, because of the way technology is changing, almost anyone can give their vocal chords a shot at appearing on a national television or radio spot. "In years gone by, advertising agencies would exclusively use talent located in cities like New York or LA. Now anyone can set up a studio in their own home for less than $500 and audition for national clients."

The automated website notifies registered users when new auditions are ready to record. The actor then logs into the site, records the script and uploads the file, which goes directly to the client that has posted the audition. Once the voice actor is chosen the final recording takes place with the client listening to the recording in real-time via Skype if desired.

It's not small change that is being exchanged. The website has already turned over one million dollars of work in just over 12 months.

Amy Farris is a female voice professional from Nevada who works from home, recording everything from national commercials to on-hold phone messages. "Voice-over websites make it possible for me to work with clients all over the world – companies and individuals that I never would have been exposed to living in a small market. Being able to audition online, from the comfort of my own home studio, is invaluable to me. It lets me pursue my dream of being a full-time voice-over actress without having to live in Los Angeles or New York."

The crowdsourcing startup is also saving clients money by hiring voice actors online who use professional home studios. "By cutting out traditional voice-over agents and recording studio fees, clients save up to 70% on what they were previously paying," Mr. James explained.

The Voice Realm has turned over in excess of one million dollars of voice over jobs in twelve months.
