The blog, which can be found at www.energylitigationmatters.com, will be overseen by two Burleson litigators: Andrea "AJ" Johnson, a partner in the Houston office and co-chair of Burleson's Southwest Litigation Team, who has three decades of experience in employment law and commercial litigation; and Thomas Ciarlone, senior counsel in the San Antonio office, who focuses his practice on class action, and oil- and gas-related litigation and dispute resolution.

Contributors will be members of the firm's broad, deep litigation team from across the country: Robert Ballentine, Houston (complex commercial litigation and arbitration, particularly focused on high-stakes energy disputes); Randy Burton, Houston (broad-based commercial litigation, with a specialty in trade secret and noncompetition conflicts); Andrew Jenkins, Pittsburgh (oil and gas and other general business litigation); David Bond, Houston (antitrust and other high-risk commercial controversies); Gary Davenport, Denver (complex commercial litigation); and Pat Long Weaver, Midland (far-ranging oil and gas and other general litigation, along with rapid-response investigations for workplace catastrophic accidents). Ms. Weaver is also co-chair of Burleson's Southwest Litigation Team.

The blog offers timely, relevant content in a wide range of litigation-specific areas, including:

  • Royalty, overrides, and title disputes
  • Breach of contract claims, defenses, and counterclaims
  • Indemnity and damages limitations decisions
  • Trade secret and noncompetition fights
  • Enforcement of arbitration clauses
  • Class actions affecting energy industry businesses
  • Procedural, venue, and jurisdictional concerns
  • Director and officer liability controversies
  • Antitrust difficulties in the hydraulic-fracturing world
  • Energy sector appeals

Johnson explained that while the firm has an active blog strategy in place, increased client concerns over litigation matters argued strongly for a stand-alone site.

"What we keep seeing and hearing is that the business community in general, and oil and gas companies in particular are looking for current information that not only keeps them abreast of new laws and regulations, but can also mitigate the litigation risks they might face," she said. "Our clients want to know what's happening today to avoid litigation tomorrow. The risks in the industry are large, so a current and dynamic blog seemed the best way to address what our clients need and bring them better value for their business in a real-time way."
