Novelda Nanoscale Impulse Radar: "Developers' Dream" Comes True

OSLO, Norway, March 29, 2012 — NOVELDA AS announced today an improved development platform for its CMOS Impulse Radar Transceiver.

Novelda's development environment provides all the software, hardware, and application development tools required to deliver success. The improved design is based on feedback from the Novelda developer community.

Consisting of a small radar module, antennas, USB to SPI cable and a software toolbox it delivers increased flexibility and performance. Through the convenient API and module based SW it allows developers to use their preferred development platform, and lowers the threshold for application implementation.

The module structured development software resides on the PC side. Each module has a clearly defined interface, making it easy for customers to develop or integrate their own software at any level. The module-based architecture will also help shorten the time towards proof of concept and the final product, and at the same time provide flexibility towards different types of operating systems and interface technologies.

Novelda's mission is to develop and manufacture impulse radar technology as a new electromagnetic high-precision sensor for human vital sign monitoring, personal security, environmental monitoring, industrial automation and other novel sensor applications.

The Novelda Impulse Radar is a complete CMOS radar transceiver integrated on a single chip. The high bandwidth of the transmitted pulses offers unique penetration abilities and very high accuracy.

In addition to being an alternative to, or complementary to, existing technologies such as image, ultrasound and infrared sensors, it opens up new application areas due to its speed and resolution, and its ability to "see through" obstacles. No more lenses need to be cleaned, and thus the cost of ownership can be dramatically reduced in comparison to technologies requiring free visibility. Since the NVA6000-series are single chip transceivers, they are very suitable for integration into small and mobile devices.
