North American Distributor of RCA Commercial Two-Way Radios Donates Vital Communication Devices to Comfort Zone Camp for Grieving Children

HARBOR CITY, Calif., Nov. 22, 2010 — The North American Distributor of RCA commercial two-way radios and leading provider to business and government, Discount Two-Way Radio, thoroughly understands how vitally important instant and reliable communication can be in environments that require safety, management, and security. CEO Ben Burns, along with his wife Tracy, have contributed to the communication needs of organizations and charities that serve their community. In an effort to raise awareness and provide for the needs of grieving children, the company recently donated a series of two-way radios, including service and repair, to Comfort Zone Camp.

Comfort Zone Camp, as the nation's largest bereavement camp for children ages 7-17, provides a safe, fun environment for children who have experienced the death of a family member or loved one. Camp sessions empower kids with the life tools they need to cope with the extreme grief they experience when someone close to them dies. Having experienced childhood bereavement after losing his mother at an early age, Ben Burns understands firsthand what these children are going through. "Children who suffer the loss of a parent or sibling go through a life-altering experience and will never be the same," Ben explained. "There is not a more deserving organization than Comfort Zone Camp for truly helping children through an incredibly difficult time in their lives."

Many organizations operating on a limited budget may simply not have the funds to purchase and maintain quality two-way radios, which are vital to safety and security. Comfort Zone Camp is a non-profit organization that relies on partnerships and donations; campers attend free of charge. Discount Two Way Radio's contributions will address camp needs and enable Comfort Zone to direct funds to making camp available to any child regardless of ability to pay.

Any facility entrusted with the safety and security of children should place a high priority on reliable two-way radio communication with long-life batteries. Cell phones rely on towers that can fail in a power outage, do not provide high enough volume, and are not instant. Managing groups of camping children whose whereabouts must be known at all times requires the reliability of two-way radios, which perform even in remote, wooded settings. Courtney D'Amico, Service Manager of the California camps, says, "Being able to quickly reach my counselors across the property is vital. Our nurses and staff must have radio access. That kind of response is very, very important to us as we run a smooth camp session."
