BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 21, 2009 — Free Costumes For Kids is a new non-profit organization in Palm Beach County. The organization’s goal this year is to provide a new or gently used Halloween costume to every underprivileged child in the county. Once this goal is achieved, the organization will expand throughout South Florida, the State of Florida and the nation. (For full details, visit http://freecostumesforkids.org.)
FreeCostumesForKids.org is interested in working with area retailers like Party City, Target, Wal-Mart, Publix and Family Dollar Stores, etc. and local non-profit organizations throughout Palm Beach County. “We are looking for local retailers and organizations that want to give back this Halloween. We need right now drop-off locations, gently used kids’ Halloween costumes, and new kids’ Halloween costumes. If your company or organization can help in any way, please pick up the phone and personally give me a call at 561-789-2421 and let me know how you would like to get involved,” says President of Free Costumes For Kids Casey McCarthy.
Free Costumes For Kids has teamed up with http://www.gigaweb.com and Delux Night Club to throw a special adult costume party bash to raise money to provide Halloween costumes for local underprivileged kids this Halloween. The bash is on Saturday, October 17th, 2009, two weeks before Halloween. Doors open at 7 PM and the cost of admission is $10. There will be a Crazy Costume Grand Prize of $200. For full details and all the ways to gain free entry, visit http://freecostumesforkids.org. Xscream Halloween Haunted House is offering half-off tickets when you donate a new or gently used kids’ Halloween costume. Visit http://www.xscreamhalloween.com for full details and location.
The Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA has invited local schools to get involved as collection and distribution sites. Delray Parks and Recreation After School Programs have already requested 303 costumes to distribute to underprivileged children in their program. Barbara Haley, Vice President of 4 Children’s S. A. K. E., is also looking forward to receiving the costumes for the abused and underprivileged children in her program, and Plumosa School of the Arts After School Art Club has volunteered to make handmade posters for all the local drop-off locations.
“As an elementary school guidance counselor in Palm Beach County for 25 years, I remember too well the look in the eyes of the kids who had no Halloween costume for the Halloween day ‘Character Parade!’ In today’s economy I’m worried there will be even more of those sad eyes this year. Help Free Costume For Kids this year to ‘Change Lives One Costume at a Time!’ It’s truly amazing the effect an act of kindness can have on families. Reaching out to children in need is one of the most effective ways to change behavior and improve attitude. Help us get the word out!” says VP of Free Costumes For Kids Chris McCarthy.
