New Nonfiction Asks People to Unite in Shared Vision

NEW YORK, Dec. 16, 2009 — “The 21st century may prove to be a more critical century for humanity than any other,” writes author, acclaimed physician, scientist and citizen-leader. Dr. B.A. Zikria introduces the need for a new vision for humanity in his new critical nonfiction book, “One Home, One Family, One Future” (published by AuthorHouse). “Today, mankind faces, not only the challenges of the past, populous poverty, epidemics, natural disaster and wars, but also global warming, climate changes, population explosion, nuclear proliferation and dwindling natural resources. We have inherited humanity’s many shortcomings of its long past, as well as the more recent serious impact of science and technology on planet Earth.”

A truly visionary work, “One Home, One Family, One Future” transcends race, nationality, religion or any form of dogma. Inspired by Neil Armstrong’s first landing on the moon, Zikria presents humanity’s solution to self-destruction as if from another heavenly body where we can see “who we are, where we are and where we are going.” From this perspective, every human being belongs to the family of Earth, holds the responsibility for his or her home and must contribute to the shared future of peoples worldwide.

As a part of a historical imperative for survival and the progress of humanity in the 21st century, Zikria advocates a non-violent, grassroots movement that supports Perennial Universalism. According to Zikria, Perennial Universalism is “a philosophical vision of the oneness of all of us, which does not ask anyone to abandon his or her culture, nationality, religious traditions or identity.” Numerous great sages and personalities throughout history have employed this vision in their contribution to humanity, but never before have all people recognized their own role in this mission, their responsibility towards humanity. The advent of new advancements in science and technology available today creates a new reality, a revised human condition, challenging readers to take part in the call for cleaner, renewable energy worldwide in order to protect our “One Home, One Family, One Future.”

B. A. Zikria was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. He came to the United States at age 18, where he studied pre-med in three years at Grinnell College, the University of Wisconsin and George Washington University. After graduating from John Hopkins School of Medicine, he trained in general surgery before teaching at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons for over 20 years. He has also taught at Harlem Hospital Medical Center for four decades. His laboratory and clinical research, discoveries of starch BPZ-302, and 10 US Patents have garnered him much acclaim. Zikria was very active during the Soviet-Afghan War and has been involved in Afghan affairs for generations as one of the founders of the Afghan National Liberation Front (ANLF) and as the chairman of the Afghan Immigrants Council. He is currently a Professor Emeritus and Special Lecturer at Columbia University.
