Nevada Orthodontist Dr. Frank Beglin to Donate $1,000 to Community-Chosen School

"Beglin Orthodontics Supporting Local Schools" campaign encourages community involvement in Carson City education programs

CARSON CITY, Nev., Feb. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Carson City Orthodontist Frank Beglin is a perpetual student. From college, dental school, and post-doctoral residency, to annual C.E. and Invisalign classes that board-certified orthodontists must attend, he's no stranger to education. Now with two daughters in the Carson City school district, Dr. Beglin is as much an education advocate as a student, actively participating in the WATCH DOGS in Schools program and mentoring students. His ultimate goal, though, is encouraging community involvement in local schools. Realizing that his orthodontic practice could be the perfect vehicle to accomplish such, he is launching the "Beglin Orthodontics Supporting Local Schools" campaign.

"Whether as a person living in Carson City or as a business serving its residents, when the community succeeds we all prosper," states Dr. Beglin. "So by inviting the community at large to participate in the 'Supporting Local Schools' campaign, we not only call attention to a worthy cause, but are also hopeful that doing such will incite community action."

Dr. Beglin has funded a "donation pot" to give his patients, families, and the community at large the power to decide which local school would benefit. "I discussed the idea with a patient's mother who also works closely with her school's PTA. We realized that this concept could have greater availability if voting occurred via Facebook rather than in our office," states Dr. Beglin. "Voting does not require a special trip to our office, and everyone in the area can participate. And this philanthropy strikes at the core of what I want people to know about Beglin Orthodontics."

How it works:  Using a desktop or laptop PC, visit the practice's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BeglinOrthodontics, and click on the "Vote For Your School" application icon under the cover photo. Doing such will provide the steps and rules in casting a vote. At the end of the voting round on May 6th, the three schools with the most votes will enter a final round where one will be drawn to win a $1,000 donation. "The fun part will be watching everyone rally their network of friends, families, etc. to join in voting," says Dr. Beglin.

Dr. Beglin's status within orthodontics may also help to promote the concept to practices nationally.  As a Board Certified orthodontist, he has also been elected into Board leadership in the Nevada Dental Society, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, and the American Association of Orthodontists. Thus the Carson City orthodontist may find himself at the epicenter of a larger movement of dental health professionals investing back into their local communities, although Dr. Beglin is reticent to concede his role if such were to occur. "I live in Carson City and have children in school here, so this area is my preeminent concern. But yes, if other orthodontists and dentists like the idea, I'll point them in the right direction. That would be pretty cool."  Pretty cool, indeed.
