To commemorate and honor military men and women, the race commences at 11 minutes after the hour. Additionally, the inaugural National Veterans Day Run half-marathon will be hosted in San Jose, Calif. In addition, National Veterans Day Run is partnering with the charity Folds of Honor Foundation (http://www.foldsofhonor.org/) to increase awareness and donations for military families.

"2013 is a milestone year for the National Veterans Day Run," said Keri Mullins, national director of operations, National Veterans Day Run series. "With more than 40 participating cities and the addition of our virtual run, we anticipate more than 25,000 runners supporting this year's event."

The event, which started in nine cities in 2011, has quadrupled in size due to overwhelming community support and interest. Last year's National Veterans Day Run events raised close to $10,000 for veterans programs.

"Our virtual running event also makes it possible for families to connect with their loved ones overseas," continues Mullins. "When signing up for remote participation, the runners will receive their official race bib and be able to record their times in order to participate with their families. With runners participating on the same date around the globe,  we are creating a commemorative event that showcases our love and commitment to the men and women who are willing to sacrifice their lives for our freedom."
