Nathan Schulhof — ‘Father of the MP3 Player Industry’ and Co-founder of Solar Components — Tapped as a Keynote Speaker at Techniche 2010 Festival in India

Schulhof will deliver two keynote addresses at the multi-day event held on the Guwahati campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Guwahati), one of the leading IT conferences held annually in India; other keynote speakers include a Nobel laureate and the founder of the Free Software Foundation

CAMPBELL, Calif., Aug. 25, 2010 — Solar Components today announced that one of its co-founders, Nathan M. Schulhof, will be featured as a Keynote Speaker at the upcoming Techniche 2010 Techno-Management Festival, held this year September 2-5 in Guwahati, Assam, India at IIT-Guwahati (one of multiple university campuses throughout India of the Indian Institute of Technology).

Schulhof will deliver two keynote addresses at Techniche 2010:

  • My Role in the Development and Evolution of the MP3 Industry — scheduled for September 3 at 5 p.m. India Standard Time (IST); and
  • Future Technologies and Future Trends in this Industry — slated for September 5 at 2 p.m. (IST).

In addition, Schulhof will also lead a panel discussion the evening of September 3 reviewing and judging business plans from students at IIT-Guwahati.

As noted in the Assam Tribune this past weekend, also joining Schulhof as keynote speakers at Techniche 2010 are:

  • Ferid Murad, 1998 co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and noted American physician and pharmacologist; and
  • Richard M. Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation.

"I'm very honored to join such noted individuals as Dr. Murad and Richard Stallman as a keynote speaker at Techniche 2010," said Nathan Schulhof. "I look forward to my trip to IIT-Guwahati and the opportunity to visit with some of the smartest students and professors in the world."

For more than three decades, Schulhof has been a serial entrepreneur, executive, management consultant, and inventor. He is listed as the lead inventor on three United States patents and co-inventor on a fourth patent, which (taken together) form the basis for much of what comprises the technology in the MP3 industry today, hence the moniker "the Father of the MP3 Player Industry."

During his career, he has raised tens of millions of dollars in investment capital, taken two companies public on U.S. stock exchanges, sold several companies, and generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue through companies he has led. Most recently, Schulhof co-founded Solar Components in Campbell, California in the heart of Silicon Valley. Solar Components' first product offering — the Joos Orange portable solar charger — has been well-received in pre-launch media coverage and is slated to begin shipping in September.

"Clearly, there is a growing need for clean, efficient and non-fossil fuel based power all around the world, but even more so in a country like India," Schulhof said. "I'm very proud of what we've created with the Joos Orange as the world's best portable solar charger. And yes, I'm bringing a Joos Orange with me to India to show Techniche attendees what can be done with solar power."
