Mobile Satellite Innovation Award Goes to Globalstar's SPOT, Pioneer Award to Former Industry Leader Olof Lundberg

MCLEAN, Va., March 10, 2009 — The Mobile Satellite Users Association (MSUA) announced the winners of its 2009 Innovation and Pioneer Awards, with the Innovation Award going to Globalstar's SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger product and the Pioneer Award going to Olof Lundberg. The MSUA-6 conference is being held in conjunction with SATELLITE 2009 Conference and Exhibition, the premier event providing solutions to the satellite end-user community, and will feature a luncheon sponsored by Inmarsat on Wednesday, March 25, at which the awards will be presented.

MSUA-6 and SATELLITE 2009 will be held from March 25-27 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

Commenting on the awards, MSUA Chairman Bob Roe noted, "We are delighted to present an Innovation Award for the second year. This year, the award recognizes Globalstar's SPOT Messenger for bringing lifesaving mobile satellite services (MSS) to a much wider consumer market, selling tens of thousands of units even in today's challenging economic times. As a result of its entry into the market, it has also helped elevate the visibility of the Mobile Satellite industry. We are pleased to honor this innovative product."

Tim Farrar, MSUA President, stated that in conferring on Olof Lundberg MSUA's Pioneer award, MSUA was "recognizing his outstanding leadership in the creation of the Inmarsat organization and the establishment of the world's first international global mobile satellite service. Lundberg played a unique role in the MSS industry, leading three different MSS operators (Inmarsat, ICO and Globalstar) over a period of more than 20 years."

The sixth international Mobile Satellite Users Conference and Exhibition, MSUA-6, provides a unique opportunity for users in mobile satellite communications. MSUA-6 is the only forum devoted exclusively to the mobile satellite industry, and features panel discussions and demonstrations of satellite terminals from many companies. Tickets to the luncheon are included with the MSUA-6 Conference registration, or can be purchased a la carte. For more information, or to register for MSUA-6, please go to .

The Mobile Satellite Users Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the interests of the users of Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) worldwide. It serves the interests of MSS users by fostering communications among and between MSS users, suppliers of MSS equipment and services, operators of MSS satellite systems, and the various entities that may affect the future of the industry. In addition, MSUA reviews, analyzes and reports on, from an MSS user's perspective, the activities, regulatory decisions and critical events of the MSS industry. Finally, MSUA provides a means of assembling MSS users' views on system and service concerns and conveying these concerns to the appropriate authorities.
