On September 26, 2013, the Commission ruled on an important issue in regard to inmate phone calls. The purpose of the ruling was to help inmates and families stay connected, and it also clarified that calls to the call routing service provided by ConsCallHome.com to its customers cannot be blocked. ConsCallHome.com uses VoIP call routing technology to lower the costs of inmate calls to ConsCallHome.com customers, enabling inmates and family members the ability to talk at affordable telephone rates. The new ConsCallHome products will be effective beginning April 16, 2014 and will continue for an indefinite amount of time.
Alarmingly, there are 12 million people who cycle through the nation's correctional facilities every year, and 2.7 million children with an incarcerated parent.
