MTCA Brings Professional Memory Training Services to Parishioners & Community

MANHASSET, N.Y., Dec. 22, 2010 — Memory Training Centers of America (MTCA), previously referred to as ATMTC, has been providing evaluation, treatment, education and support to individuals suffering from memory impairment and caregivers since 2001. MTCA is the largest provider of cognitive evaluations and memory training services at Assisted Living residences in the Northeast, with more than 40 Centers in assisted living and independent senior retirement communities, as well as nursing care and hospital-based programs. All treatment services are paid for by Medicare.

For almost ten years, Memory Training Centers of America has been helping seniors and families meet the challenges of memory loss and Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Barbara Kaplan of MTCA is very excited about the opening of a new center at Shelter Rock last month. "Upon reading the website, the line that caught me was about the church being a place that 'has a lot to offer the heart and mind.' We, at MTCA, are enthusiastic about being able to offer a service that fits that mission. I personally felt grateful about the warm reception at the presentation and I am eager to work with congregants and others who live in the community. I have witnessed how it can help in meaningful ways."

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, located on Shelter Rock Road, started in 1941 as four Port Washington families joined together to organize a liberal religious education program for their children. In early 1944, this group of families established a congregation which incorporated as "The North Shore Unitarian Society" in January 1945. Over the next fifty years, the church continued to grow to more than 300 members, with new buildings being erected, including a children's wing and social hall. In June of 1993 the congregation voted to change its name to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock. There are several community outreach programs, including Green Sanctuary, Multi-Cultural/Economic Justice, Jobs with Justice and Affordable Housing. Hadley House is a senior residence owned and operated by the congregation, which also has an MTCA memory center. At Shelter Rock, the belief is that people can transform themselves and change the world. For more information, please visit the website at http://www.uucsr.org.

Now, for the first time in MTCA history, professional memory training services are being brought to a church congregation and their community. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with memory impairment, MTCA provides treatment that will stabilize the decline of memory functioning and even reverse its potentially devastating consequences. The "Memory Gym" and Activity Centers provide preventive "workouts" to enable optimal memory and overall cognitive health. MTCA provides programs and services as a subsidiary of the Alzheimer's Treatment and Memory Training Centers of America (ATMTCA). To learn more, visit http://www.memorytrainingcenters.com.
