Major League Baseball Lining Up for Champion Honors Luncheon

Benefiting The Barbara Sinatra Center for Abused Children, the event features keynote speaker Bud Selig and honors Jackie Autry

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., Dec. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Major League Baseball is lining up big time in support of the Barbara Sinatra Center for Abused Children's Champion Honors Luncheon on January 17 at the Hyatt Regency Resort in Indian Wells, CA honoring American League Honorary President Jackie Autry, and keynoted by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig.

In addition to Commissioner Selig and Mrs. Autry, many other baseball luminaries including a number of current Major League Baseball owners, executives and former ball players are also expected to attend and participate in the event.

Major League Baseball, the MLB Network, and many MLB clubs including the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners and others have lined up in support of the event.

"The advance reservations for the luncheon and the support from the community has exceeded all of our best expectations," Champion Honors Luncheon Chairman, Hal Gershowitz said. "Presenting Sponsor, Wells Fargo Bank, has been a wonderful supporter of the event from the very beginning," Gershowitz continued.

This year's Champion Honors luncheon, which has become one of the most talked about events of the winter season in the Palm Springs area, has already become the largest in the history of the event.  Reservations for tickets to the luncheon have surpassed all previous Children's Center events.  "Because 2014 will be Selig's last year as Commissioner, the proposed MLB rules changes, and the state of baseball in general, the event is enjoying a lot of community buzz," Children's Center Director, John Thoresen indicated.  This January marks the beginning of Alan H "Bud" Selig's last year as Commissioner of Baseball.  Selig became acting Commissioner in 1992 and was elevated to Commissioner in 1998.
