COSTA MESA, Calif., July 6, 2009 — As more law enforcement agencies, military organizations, private security firms and government agencies adopt the use of Segway(TM) Personal Transporters as part of their green initiatives, obtaining safety and tactical equipment and accessories for the Segway has become a concern. Thanks to the family of Segway Tactical Shields and accessories from Lucent Tactical (http://www.lucenttactical.com), however, green and safe are no longer mutually exclusive goals.
“Officers on Segways need to be safe and visible, and they need to be recognized as peacekeepers and law enforcement officers wherever they patrol,” stated Lucent Tactical President Edmund Karam. “Lucent Tactical Segway shields provide that safety and allow security personnel, law enforcement and military to be a visible, immediately identifiable presence — whether they’re at the airport, patrolling an event or on their regular beat downtown.”
Made to fit first- or second-generation Segways, Lucent Tactical Shields are designed and manufactured in the U.S. and available in three sizes to meet varying needs. The Stryker shield is a mid-sized wrap-around shield with high clearance for easy maneuverability. The Abrams shield is the company’s largest, measuring 80 inches across and offering the largest graphic surface in the industry, while the Cougar shield is Lucent Tactical’s low-profile, lightweight shield. Lucent Tactical has also just introduced its new Segway Ballistic Tactical Riot Shield; the specialized shield is NIJ-certified and rated up to AG-200.
The Stryker, the Abrams and the Cougar are all crafted of tough ABS plastic. Custom graphics and accessories, including loudspeakers, strobe lights and sirens, are available for all models. As part of its commitment to quality, Lucent Tactical designs and prints all graphics in-house and graphic-wraps each shield on site. All graphics and accessories, including loudspeakers, lights and sirens, are completely weatherproof. In fact, all Lucent Tactical products are designed for outdoor use, with concealed internal wiring and a 12-volt rechargeable battery.
Lucent Tactical Segway shields make going green more realistic and practical for many agencies, Karam stated.
“Segways give off zero emissions during operation, allowing officers to operate indoors as well as outdoors. The small amount of electricity used to recharge the batteries causes fourteen times less greenhouse gas emissions than driving a car,” Karam explained. “In one year of operating on a Segway, each user can literally save a ton of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere. Those are all excellent reasons to transition personnel to Segways. With the addition of Lucent Tactical shields, there is no reason not to go green.”
