Los Angeles Orthodontist Dr. Janet Schrodi Helping to Rescue Children Trapped in Sex Industries

One case of orthodontic treatment donated to Forever Found auction on September 26

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — According to the International Labor Organization approximately 1.2 million children per year, or 2 children per minute, are illegally trafficked.  Human trafficking is estimated to be a $32 billion per year criminal industry with $28 billion per year generated from commercial sexual exploitation.  The United States is a source, transit point and final destination for many children trapped in modern day slavery (UNICEF).  One Granada Hills orthodontist, Dr. Janet Schrodi of TLC for Smiles, is standing up for these children.  She is donating one case of orthodontic treatment to Forever Found's silent auction taking place on September 26, 2013 at the Moorpark Country Club.

Dr. Schrodi explains, "During my childhood over a 2 year period, I fell victim to a local pedophile.  I understand something about the devastation that exploitation causes.  The children I am trying to help do not suffer for such a short time.  They are slaves and forced to service adults sexually every day of their lives.  Boys and girls are dying young due to despair, neglect and sexually transmitted diseases.  This atrocity happens in Los Angeles and throughout the world.  In some countries, a child can be purchased for only $20!  By donating one case of orthodontic treatment, as many as 200 children can be rescued."

Dr. Janet Schrodi became a supporter of Forever Found after hearing an impassioned plea to respond to this overwhelming issue by using whatever talents one has to offer.  Forever Found is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention, rescue and restoration of child trafficking victims and by partnering with other organizations, helps to provide safe homes in California, Arizona, Ethiopia, Thailand and Burma. Victims are given food, shelter, medical attention, emotional and spiritual counseling, an education and vocational training.  Currently Forever Found is directly supporting over 1,200 children in India and is working to build a permanent safe home for these children.  Though this is a large number of children to care for, the sad reality is that only about 1% of enslaved children are rescued through organizations like Forever Found.

Forever Found's 3rd annual benefit dinner and silent auction is taking place on September 26, 2013 and is an important means of raising awareness and funds to save and support rescued children.  Tickets for this event at the Moorpark Country Club can be purchased at www.foreverfound.org.

TLC for Smiles has been providing dentistry for children and orthodontics for people of all ages since 2008, helping to create healthy and beautiful smiles that last a lifetime.  Dr. Janet Schrodi was born and raised in Los Angeles and completed dental school at Harvard University and dental specialty training in pediatric dentistry and in orthodontics at UCLA.
