It's Not Too Late to Look Better Before the Holidays, Say San Diego Plastic Surgeons

Team at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre recommends 5 procedures that offer quick results

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Cosmetic procedures used to require a lot of recovery time. But advances in surgical techniques and cosmetic treatments now produce quick results—so rapidly that a patient can have a surgical procedure before Thanksgiving and look better for the holidays at the end of the year. Non-surgical procedures can be scheduled up to one week before a holiday gathering.

The team of surgeons at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre recommends the following aesthetic enhancements to prepare for the approaching holiday season. The procedures noted below offer cosmetic improvement for a variety of body or facial concerns, and all offer the best chance for success when performed by a board certified plastic surgeon.

6 Weeks Before the Holidays:

Breast augmentation. One of the most popular cosmetic surgeries year in and year out, breast augmentation is now a relatively simple surgical procedure and is safely performed on an outpatient basis. After an initial week of recovery, normal activities around the home can be resumed. After about three weeks, exercise routines can begin again. While some swelling may remain for a few months after surgery, most post-operative swelling is gone within three to four weeks.

5 Weeks Before the Holidays:

Chin augmentation. A stronger chin with a more defined profile can be achieved with a chin implant. If inserted externally, a small (1/2 inch) inconspicuous incision is made under the chin. Most of the post-operative swelling is gone with a week or two, yet the results continue to improve over the course of the next several months. Chin augmentation was the fastest growing trend in plastic surgery in 2011, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

3 Weeks Before the Holidays:

Botox® Injections. Wrinkles on the forehead or between the eyes can be treated with Botox®, which temporarily weakens the muscles that causes the wrinkles in these areas. The effects of Botox® develop over the course of a few days to several weeks and last three to four months. Botox® treatment addresses a tired or worried look caused by a furrowed brow.

2 Weeks Before the Holidays:

Lip Enhancement. Thin or aging lips can be rejuvenated in time for holiday festivities through injections with hyaluronic acid fillers, sold under brand names such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane®. These products plump the lips yet leave them soft and natural feeling. Any slight swelling should recede within a week or two at most.

1 Week Before the Holidays:

Dermal Filler Injections. Injectables that fill in wrinkles and add volume can create a noticeable improvement for aging faces or hands. A variety of products from different manufacturers address deep folds and wrinkles by plumping up the skin. The results from most of these products are seen immediately and no downtime is anticipated.

Using modern techniques and treatments, a quick improvement in appearance can be possible in just a few short weeks, whether in preparation for the holidays or a special occasion such as a wedding. A consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon can provide informed choices about the options available for each individual patient.
