Innovative Balance Control Technique Presented at Worldwide International Tennis Federation Sparks New Perception on Developmental Progressions for Junior Athletes

Basis of all court movements begins with the Split Step

CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — 900 tennis coaches met and exchanged ideas on Developmental Progressions of junior tennis athletes. Gordon Uehling's talk (How to Develop and Maintain World Class Balance Control and a Properly Executed Split Step) encapsulated the 'WhyHow and What' of modern day teaching tools.

Athletes learn to use their eyes, ears and proprioceptive senses to synchronize their body to the required movements with what some call sensory-motor development.

Understanding the movements required between hitting consecutive tennis balls can be described with these 5 segments:

Segment 1 – Recovering & Centering
Segment 2 – Loading & Preparing to Hop
Segment 3 – Reading the Ball Direction
Segment 4 – Landing on the Offside Foot
Segment 5 – Moving & Hitting the Ball

Developing these movements requires isolating each segment and performing multiple repetitions correctly; as Daniel Coyle says, in his Best Seller 'The Talent Code', "build the desired pathways in the myelin of the brain."

Gordon Uehling of CourtSense appreciates these concepts and developed cutting edge progressions for junior athletes using the latest state of the art technology.

Developing correct movement in Segments can be accomplished using various mobile devices and the unique SW Applications developed for IOS and Android devices. With these tools the coach and athlete can spend quality time developing each of the movements within the various drills.
