Ingenious and Discrete, the Out of Sight Case® Makes Life Easier for Those with Type 1 Diabetes

Compact carrying case holds everything needed to monitor blood glucose and correct any issues

BENICIA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Dubbed "Freedom in a Case," the Out of Sight Case® (http://www.outofsightcases.com/) gives those diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a convenient way to keep all of their supplies in one place. Designed with removable Velcro® straps, users can attach the case to their ankle, thigh or simply carry it in a backpack or purse. The Out of Sight Case® solves the problem of finding a container designed specifically for diabetes supplies that can also be carried inconspicuously.

For Mary Day, creator of the Out of Sight Case®, the issue of Type 1 Diabetes is personal: she has two daughters who have been diagnosed with the disease. This has fueled her mission to become an innovator in diabetes products that improve the quality of life. "I love working with my customers," she said, "and designing a product that works for them and makes life a little easier."

Type 1 Diabetes is a serious condition with no cure, but today the disease is more manageable than it was in the past. Teenagers, though, sometimes want to pretend their diabetes doesn't exist because the disease can make them feel self-conscious and different. By taking the hassle out of carrying testing and insulin delivery supplies, the Out of Sight Case® lets teens manage their diabetes more effectively. It is important for them not to feel as if their disease interferes with school or their social life.

In fact, inspiration for this innovative product came from a teenage boy who would not carry his diabetes supplies. "I realized that, for teenagers and men especially, a carrying case needed to be discrete and compact," remarked Day. "Lugging around an awkward bag feels like a chore to many people, but the Out of Sight Case® allows a sense of freedom. That's why I call it 'Freedom in a Case.'"

The Out of Sight Case® holds everything necessary to manage the symptoms of diabetes: insulin, syringes, a glucometer and glucose tablets. It holds up to two days' worth of supplies, so packing for a busy day at work or school is no problem. The case is designed so that it's easy to see if anything's missing. Relying on general purpose cases introduces the risk of forgetting something essential. A removable mesh bag, available in five colors, can attach to a waistband or fit inside a pocket. The case itself is available in three styles: black, camouflage and zebra.

Day noted, "Thanks in part to the Out of Sight Case®, the young man who was the original tester of the product has graduated high school and has become much healthier."

The Out of Sight Case® isn't just for diabetes supplies. Users have found that it's a convenient way to carry Epipens (for allergic reactions), bronchial inhalers, ID cards and cash, cell phones, and portable game consoles. Satisfied users of the case have described it as "hip" and "cool."

Day has ambitious plans for the Out of Sight Case®; she hopes to secure a partnership that will enable the cases to be distributed free of charge to every child diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Establishing the right diabetes maintenance habits from the beginning is essential, after all, to a long, healthy life.
