InfoWorld Bestows Synology Cube Station CS407 With Its ’2009 Technology of the Year’ Award

Synology edges out serious competition to become the only NAS server manufacturer given the 2009 Technology of the Year award

REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 22, 2009 — Synology America Corporation today announced that InfoWorld, a leading publisher of technology information and reviews, has awarded Synology’s Cube Station CS407 the coveted “2009 Technology of the Year” award. Only 12 products were given this prestigious award in the System and Storage category, and Synology was the only NAS server manufacturer to win, sharing the stage with Apple, Dell, HP, and other top-tier brands. InfoWorld Senior Contributing Editor Paul Venezia calls the CS407 a “Sweet Low-End NAS” and a “really hip little box,” and was impressed by the rich feature set, economical price point, and openness of the Synology design, saying it was “as open as if you built it yourself – but you didn’t have to.”

“We at Synology are thrilled to be recipient of InfoWorld’s 2009 Technology of the Year Award,” said Cheen Liao, President of Synology America Corporation. “Synology’s dedicated and talented engineering team constantly churns out new technologies that allow our NAS servers to meet and exceed our customer’s expectations,” Mr. Liao added.

The Cube Station CS407 is a compact, low-cost, 4-drive SATA NAS server that offers up to 4TB of storage capacity (utilizing 1TB drives) and is capable of RAID levels 0/1/5/6. Synology’s famous AJAX-based embedded Disk Station Manager (DSM) 2.0 NAS management software allow the CS407 to overtake tasks that traditionally require a PC-based server – including website hosting, stand-alone file downloading with remote file management, surveillance video recording/viewing from IP cameras installed on the network, and much more. The CS407 is at home on Windows(R), Macintosh(R), and Linux-based networks. The CS407 supports Windows ADS authentication, encrypted network backup, encrypted FTP with hack-prevention, and many other features, including cool and quiet design.

Synology offers a full range of NAS servers, including the new Business Class lineup offering unparalleled performance and features for small and medium business and corporate workgroups at price points that even the CFO can smile about. Users who need maximum-performance NAS servers should consider the Synology DS408, offering twice the performance of the CS407 with only a 25% price premium. Additionally, the Synology flagship NAS server, the DS508, rated “best buy” by PC World, offers a 5-bay hot swappable storage solution.

Availability

The CS407 is currently available as an enclosure for end customers to add their own drives into for $599.95 MSRP and is available from PC Mall, Amazon.com, Tiger Direct, Newegg.com, and other fine resellers. Pre-configured systems with installed hard disk drives are also available from PC Mall and Amazon.com.
