Indie Pop Band Overlord Closes a Door; Opens a Window

NEW YORK, July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Brooklyn indie pop band Overlord triumphantly ends their two-year, one-city tour supporting the 2011 album "In Soviet Russia, My Heart Breaks You" at Manhattan's Cake Shop on Saturday July 20th, 2013. The group will mark the occasion by publicly performing the entirety of its next album, "The Well-Tempered Overlord," for the first time. This new album will be recorded the following week for release in 2014.

While "In Soviet Russia…" – which spent several months on CMJ's Top 200 — was an archetypal 'break-up' album, the new record focuses on the inevitable self-assessment of one's limited stay on this fetid orb. Let the good times roll?

On the eve of the ever-obscure Overlord's ninth bubblegum pop and mope rock-inspired release since 1997, lead singer George Pasles solemnly pays tribute to bassist Sarah Brockett, drummer Matthew Lincoln Houser, and organist Tris McCall: "Never have so few done so much for so little." Uneasily merging the aesthetics of Stephen Patrick Morrissey with "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" by the Ohio Express, the group specializes in catchy and depressing two-minute-long sing-a-longs. A splendid time is guaranteed for non-English speakers.

The performance will feature the introduction of Overlord Glass, a cutting-edge patent-flouting piece of tech headgear that enables band members to check their email mid-song. And, as always, the band members will be perched on Segways throughout the show. Additionally, a cake will be provided to drummer Matt Houser on his birthday, which will occur mid-set at midnight. And, yes, you can have some.

Cake Shop is located at 152 Ludlow St LES, NYC, NY. The schedule for Saturday July 20th, 2013 is Overlord at 11 PM, with Miniboone at 10 PM and Giraffes? Giraffes! at 9 PM.
