Hunter R. Rawlings III Joins GiveGab Board of Directors

Social network for volunteers will benefit from Rawlings' extensive experience and connections in higher education and government relations

ITHACA, N.Y., Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — GiveGab, the social network for volunteers, announces the appointment of Hunter R. Rawlings III to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.  Rawlings is the president of the American Association of Universities and the past president of both Cornell University and the University of Iowa.

Rawlings received his B.A. with honors in classics from Haverford College, and his Ph.D in classics from Princeton University. He began his career in academic administration at Colorado, serving as chairman of the classics department and later as associate vice chancellor for instruction. In 1988, Rawlings was named President of the University of Iowa, a position he held until 1995. He then became the 10th president of Cornell University from 1995 until 2003, and as interim president for one year between 2005-2006.  Currently, he is a professor of classical history in Cornell's Department of History and Department of Classics.

Rawlings has been President of the Association of American Universities since June 1, 2011. He has served as chair of both the Association of American Universities and the Ivy Council of Presidents. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and is on the boards of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, Haverford College, and the National Academy Foundation.
